RAHAYU of Jalan Haji Abd Manan, Meru, Klang, says factory workers are still
occupying a cluster of containers nearby despite the Klang Municipal Council
promising to take action, as reported by The Malay Mail on July 15.
"The local council keep saying they will do something but until today, the
illegal 'Kampung Kontena' continues to be an eyesore, mainly occupied by
foreigners working at the nearby factories," she says, adding that this has been
the situation for about a decade.
"How long more must residents endure this situation?" At Kampung Kontena, some
50 containers stacked in twos or threes are being used as hostels for some 200
foreign workers of a nearby rubber glove-manufacturing
Although the drainage problem was not directly connected to the company, it
stepped up and cleaned the drain in front of their workers' housing compounds
when residents complained to The Malay Mail.
● THE council's head of communications Norfiza Mahfiz says: "We have given
Maxter Glove Manufacturing Sdn Bhd notice to dismantle the illegal housing but
they need more time to rectify the problem."
Previously, the council had issued at least two similar notices to the company,
in January 2007 and August 2008.
